[?] Twido - Modbus connections

Post by alex_s »

Hi all ,

I am investigating a possibility of using a Schneider Electronics Twido PLC as a remote I/Os controlled by a Modbus RTU master. So the PLC would act as slave.
Some questions arise:

1. Do the PLCs (say Compact base TWD LCxA 16DRF) support coils/inputs Modbus requests ( func. codes 1,2,15) ?

2. Do I need to program the Twido PLC ? What I need is just set outputs and read inputs via Modbus.

3. Any other suggestions about remote Modbus controlled I/Os would be appreciated. I need Modbus RTU coil/input func. support only.
I have already checked some ABB stuff and even simpler ADAM I/Os...

Thanks !

Hi, Alex_s
If you need only remote I/O through Modbus network I would recommend you have a look at Advantys OTB - remote I/O device based on Twido controller. As Twido controller Advantys OTB uses the same expansion modules but doesn't have possibility to execute any user code.
In case Advantys OTB I/O module you don't need to use direct access to inputs/outputs addresses, all I/O objects represented as bits in internal words, which can be read or wrote through following modbus functions: 3, 6, 16, 22, 23, 43.
And by the way: OTB Modbus module has useful daisy chain double port which allow make connection without any additional wiring devices (such tap or something like that).
