Hi,
Basically you could use directly inputs and outputs. But I suggest you to transfer I/O to data blocks. And you could separate in "devisions" - one DB (Alarms), DB (Controls) DB (Status), DB (setpoints)...In this way your project will be more understandable and universal. Look at follow links:
