Sure you can download the program to your Laptop with no problems with the original.
You will have no descriptions if the source is not available. You had better have a good working knowledge of the program and machine before making any changes.
You would use RS logix 500 to download the program.
Also make a backup of the original plc program before making changes, just in case.
Have fun

Thanks Joker12
another question I remember that in RSlinx manual it says you will make download before you go online then you will be able to read the project on line and so you will be able to upload it but I wonder if this download (to go on line) will interrupt the process.

First of all, you must keep to mind - "download" in RSLogix is the downloading programm to PLC (PC-->PLC), and "upload" is the uploading the programm and data from PLC to PC (PLC-->PC).m_m_sami13 wrote:Thanks Joker12

The PLC aplication programm will be stopped and replaced then you make "download"!
You can be sure that the PLC key in RUN position. In this mode you can make backup (upload) safitely without risk to interrupt processing.
