1. General information on the new licensing model

With SIMATIC SIMIT V10, a new licensing model based on a USB dongle has been introduced.
The dongle is part of the licensing process and always needs to be inserted.
It also serves as a secure and central storage location for all SIMATIC SIMIT floating licenses.
If the dongle or a required license is not found in the entire subnet, the simulation is stopped
and the software can only be used with restrictions until the dongle or the license is detected again.

2. USB dongle and licenses

The USB dongle is labeled with a serial number in the format "3-xxxxxxx".
This serial number is unique and is used to create the licenses based on the serial number.
In the case of a follow-up order, it is therefore always necessary to specify the dongle serial number.

3. No dongle inserted

If the software does not detect a dongle or required license, the simulation is stopped.
You are informed of this by a message on the operator station.

The result is that the right to use the software is no longer given without a valid license
and a new license or dongle therefore needs to be ordered.

Note

The dongle is searched for throughout the subnet.
This means that it is sufficient to connect the dongle to a PC, for example in a secure server room.
Because the dongle contains all licenses and is therefore essential for the licensing of the plant,
it is recommended that the dongle is stored in a secure area with restricted access.
