modbus comms with Telemechanique TSXP5720

Post by umbamanOS »

Hi
I have the following PLC

Modicon Telemechanique
PROCESSOR TSXP5720 /*it's a premium one
PROCESSOR version 2.0(22)

Also I have the following equipment
TSXSCP114 --> Communication card PCMCIA
TSXPACC01 --> CONNECTION BOX
TSXSCPCM4030 -->CONNECTION CABLE
TSXPCX1031--> CONNECTION CABLE

According to the support department of Schneider, this should be fine for modbus communications with a PC.
But I am trying for a long time trying different configurations and different s/w programs with no luck.
The Schneider's support department suggested that I should use Vijeo to test the communications since it is officially suporting this configuration.
I don't have the time to learn another software package. I am sure that it is not going to work.

Has anyone had any experience with the aforementioned combination?
Please help
Any ideas are welcome.
Any other ways of communication, just anything. I need a way to read and to write register values. Modbus comms was the first that came in mind. Any other ideas would be great.
I just want to communicate the PLC with a PC.
Regards

TSXP5720+PCMCIA<-> TSXSCPCM4030 <-> teminal connection <-> RS485_to_USB adapter<->PC
The structure that I use is
TSXP5720+PCMCIA<-> TSXSCPCM4030 <-> teminal connection <-> RS485_to_RS232 adapter
but I get no comms. Acording to some pdf's and according to Schneider's technician my coneections are correct.

1. Show details of connection and then use software.
2. Remember that on TSX SCP114 pin A(D0) is "-", and B(D1) is "+".

The TSXSCPCM4030 cable is connected to the box below
http://www.global-download.schneider-el ... 000_04.pdf

To the box the adapter below is connected
http://www.global-download.schneider-el ... 000_03.pdf

and then to the RS232 port of the PC.
I only need s/w to test the connection, I will build my own program to interface with the PLC.

These schemes will not work for the TSX Premium, because the TER port does not support the protocol Modbus (only UniTelway or Character Mode). You need another adapater RS232-RS485 than TSX PCX1031 connected by the scheme shown above:
TSXP5720+TSXSCP114<-> TSXSCPCM4030 <-> teminal connection (or without) <-> RS485_to_USB adapter (or RS485_to_RS232 adapter )<->PC

This is currently my configuration

TSXP5720+TSXSCP114 <-> TSXSCPCM4030 <-> TSXPACC01 <-> TSXPCX1031 <-> PC

TSXPACC01:
http://www.global-download.schneider-el ... 000_04.pdf

TSXPCX1031:
http://www.global-download.schneider-el ... 000_03.pdf

The TSXPCX1031 adapter cable is connected to the TER port of the TSXPACC01 connection box.

Using this configuration there is no modbus communication, or there is something that I am doing wrong.

TSX PACC01 use supply 5V by TER Port PLC. If you do not connect the TSX PACC01 to the TER port PLC, it will not be powered. If you connect If you connect the box to the TER port, the port will operate in UNITELWAY or symbol MODE. In theory, this could work, but you might not.

Well it doesn't work.
In the computer i see some hexadecimal numbers but these are coming form or going to to the processor and not to the modbus card.
There is not any modbus protocol information flowing. The computer is seeing the processor and not the modbus card.

Can you think of any solutions to my problem?

pupena_san thank you very much for your time

This can work, but is not advisable to do so

This exactly the configuration I am using. I will try it one more time and I will write tomorrow.
Which software would you use to test the connection?

1) I have not tested this configuration
2) I usually use http://www.modbustools.com/
3) TSX PCX1031 needs AutoRTS on RS232(PC)
