[?]: RSLOGIX5000 V19 and V20

Post by Ronny_Resistor »

I am new to this web site so I will try to be brief, please do not tell me to buy a legit copy etc.

I have worked with Logix based software most of my life.
Early on I received a key that was on a USB stick that allowed me to transfer the key onto my notebook. RSLOGIX5000 V19 on a 64-bit operating system. (enabled the key software to run as an administrator and then transfer as XP compatible) No problems the software ran fine for 1 year (I do own a legitimate key as this was purchased software).
Anyway along comes version V20 and it has Factory Talk activation V3.5 when I installed this I now have to register my software on the internet to allow this to work.
I lost V19 as the Activation is now controlled by Factory Talk.
After removing all the RSLogix software and re-installing RSLOGIX5000 V19 I am left with the following conclusion.
Don't bother with RSLOGIX5000 V20
and
If Factory Talk Activation can be left at V3.2 (came with V19) then perhaps RSLOGIX5000 V20 can run with the same key.
Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.

i would try to stay with version 19 in 5000 and version 8.3 in 500 as those are the last to support masterdisk activation, unless i missed something, I was also told by an AB rep that they will be in the near future disabling master disk actiations so the never work again once they have been converted to factory talk. So from my personal experience STAY AWAY from anything above v19 and v8.3 until you have no other choice but to up grade. cheers (pm)

If you have a master disk activation and you want to use v20, then you have to convert the activation to a FactoryTalk activation. This will allow you to run all versions up to and including v21. However, the FT activation cannot be converted back to a master disk activation again. If you decide to keep your old master disk activation you will only be able to run all versions up to and including v19.

Master disk activation support won't be removed from the older versions to ensure continued support of legacy systems, so if you don't plan on running v21 or newer then don't bother upgrading.

Of course, future processors and I/O will only be supported by later versions of the software, so at some point you will have to convert your license. For example, certain features of the Powerflex 525 series drives are only available in v20 and above.
