[?]: S7-300 SM322 64 Digital inputs

Post by dbozic »

Hi, I have never came across this module so after checking it's properties i'm curious about something:
1) I have read that it is necessary to use connecting cable(6ES7392-4BC50-0AA0) and/or(not sure) front connector(6ES7 392-1BN00-
0AA0). Do we need both? In other modules front connector is sufficient so that is bothering me. What does the connection then look like if we need both?
2) Performance is ok with this? We would need about 160 DI, so I'm thinking of using 3 modules of 64 DI. One or maybe 2 modules of 64 digital output. One module of 8 analog output, and 4 modules of 8 analog inputs. Which PLC would be ok for this combination?

PLC would mainly control valves(5 control valves and about 60 on/off). Or is it better to accomplish this with combination of distributed ET200 modules and main PLC?
Every suggestion is welcomed!

try to use simatic selection tools:
https://eb.automation.siemens.com/mall/ ... figurators
open Automation Technology, scroll down, start SIMATIC Selection Tool
SIMATIC Selection Tool wrote:The SIMATIC Selection Tool helps you to pick your SIMATIC hardware quickly and accurately. Simply put together your Stations (LOGO!, S7-200, S7-1200, S7-300, S7-400, S7-400H) and select the I/O (ET 200S, ET 200M, ET 200pro, ET 200iSP, ET 200eco, ET 200eco PN, ET200 L). You can then configure the appropriate cables for connecting the stations via SIMATIC NET (PROFIBUS, PROFINET). You can select SIPLUS products for corrosive environmental conditions or extreme temperature ranges. In addition you can also set up SIMOTION and SINUMERIK stations.
You then automatically transfer the generated parts list to the shopping cart of the Siemens Industry Mall, where you can place your order in the usual fast, easy way.
The SIMATIC Selection Tool is also available as a stand-alone version (download) at http://www.siemens.com/simatic-selectio ... standalone

The new 64DI and 64DO modules required a new front connectors 6ES7 392-1BN00-0AA0. And the connection cables are three types (different lengths 1m, 2.5m and 5m). Those cables are using for direct connection of sensors and valves as max length is 5m. It is analogical like "Top Connect" concept in S7-1500 http://support.automation.siemens.com/U ... n/68013968 ). The module required both - connector and cable. More information about modules http://support.automation.siemens.com/U ... n/25702587
Personally I wouldn't use 64DI modules (OPTICALLY ISOLATED IN GROUPS OF 16 :o ). and 64DO. Practically it is better for me to use ET200S modules. OK, it is a little bit more expensive but...and needs more space.
As suggested above you can check if the configuration is OK using SSTool but also Simatic Manager ->Hardware Configuration directly.
