Logix CPU Security

Post by mustbemad10 »

Hello.
Does anybody have a workaround to unsecure a CPU?
I have a Compactlogix L32E that has been secured but the person has forgotton the password. We need the program running on the CPU, so erasing the CPU isn't an option.

Please help somebody

...that I want to mess with but I don't know the password

Fixed that for you.

Vendors lock PLCs for two reasons:

1. To protect their intellectual property.
2. To stop idiots messing with the code and killing themselves, or other people.

Vendors lock PLCs for two reasons:

1. To protect their intellectual property.
2. To stop idiots messing with the code and killing themselves, or other people.
3. To hide the fact there is nothing special or magical in the protected routines (but you have to pay for them!).

Anyway, @mustbemad10, a couple of years ago I had a ControlLogix (firmware v15) with CPU lock and a compact flash where the application was saved. I copied the CF's application to my laptop and I did read it using a text processor (pnotepad). In spite of the code was all gibberish, I discovered that password was written in plane text. Since CPU lock only accept letters and numbers, it was not so difficult to find the password.

The problem with CPU Lock is that you need to know how RA does to set the password inside the cpu. Good luck with the reverse engineering.

If you read the OP, the CPU is locked and there is no backup application.
