Good morning everyone.
I have a project for a client where I will need to control the tension of a winder, need to do the engine mander a counterforce to the output material.
Have any of you used frequency inverter in any similar application?

If I understood correctly.
I think that you need drive with Vector Torque Control (VTC) ability, appropriate motor, encoder or any other feedback supported by chosen drive, and external cooling fan for motor, and probably braking resistor.
I suggest you to talk to the favorite drive manufacturer about this.
Drive which I have been using for such purpose:

Other manufacturers also have such drives also, it is up to you what to choose.

If you talk about a payoff, with the cable pulling the reel and the motor, the way that the drive has to be always braking by using the DC bus braking chopper and a resistor, the best choice is the PM250 module from Siemens (AC regenerative). No resistors needed. Tested many times with power up to 90 kW
