Process Control Design & Implementation: Heated Tank Control

Post by Nicho Kan »

Hello,

I am working on a project and I need as much advice and assistance as I can get.

Background
Most students in the region (and even internationally) who chose to work in industrial control
engineering will do so in a process environment. Process dynamics and control is therefore an excellent
and powerful engineering systems application to demonstrate, apply and test control analysis and
design tools and strategies. This project will focus on the analysis design implementation and control of
a typical heated tank process found in industry.
Objectives
1. Research and review the operation and control of heated tank process typically used in local
industry
2. Develop a working prototype of a heating tank and process
3. Design, model and implement various control strategies for the process
4. Investigate system design and response properties including response to steady disturbance,
frequency response and stability, use of scaled variables vs. deviation variables, sensor effect on
feedback loop, valve choice and effect on dynamics
Implementation and Methodology
1. Thermal Systems Process Control review
2. Prototype design, modeling and implementation
3. Control design, modeling and simulation
4. Control system investigation and analysis and testing
