[?]: Read-only USB sticks from Siemens

Post by FLOK »

I have here several Siemens USB sticks from various IPCs.
I would like to use them as normal memory, but they are all write protected.
Does anyone know a way to remove this write protection ?
All possibilities I could find in the internet do not work.

Regards

I managed to hack this flash drive. It turned out to be a recovery utility.

How ?
Are you able to use the stick as an "normal" USB-Drive ?

There is nothing new there and there cannot be.
An ordinary bootable USB flash drive that windows does not "know".
How can I help you?
Can I tell you how to format a USB flash drive for NTFS?
Go to the computer services.

So, assuming your talking about the ones that are rebadged ADATA UV131 flashdrives.
You need to use a tool called SMI MPTool.
There are a lot of versions available from a site call USBDev.
The version that I've found to work is called Star_SM3268AB_Prescan_T0117.
The password to unlock the setting is "320". All data on drive will be lost.
I recommend selecting USB_HDD instead of USB_ZIP as it makes the drive show up as a harddrive instead of a basic flash drive which means you could partition the drive if you want.
The tool can flash up to 16 drives at once, and you could even make a small section of the drive readonly.
This is what Siemens does, except they make the read only part take up all but 1MB of space.
