S7-1200 Power Supply

Hi,
Is S7-1200 Power Module necessary for powering S7-1200 CPU? Why it is necessary?

What will happen if I'll use regular 24V 2.5A Power supply? (can I do it only for simple testing?)

Hi, from my experience, I've seen many electrical cabinet, with S7 plc powered by third-party PS. As long as the Power Supply matches the PLC requirements, and protection levels, you should be good to go.
