Hello people,

anybode working with Foxboro I/A or A2?

Would be interesting to know your opinion about this DCS especialy in comparing with Honeywell Plantscape or Emerson DeltaV.
Also maybe you know free resource for downloading of documentation
and software.
Thanks in advance.

I have lots of experience with Foxboro IA. I work with it from 1991. At our plant we work at the moment with IA version 6.1.1 based on unix and at the moment we are at the start of an upgrade to version 8.3 or 8.4 (depends when 8.4 will come out) this version will be on the Windows platform, so all the hardware must be replaced except the I/O

The strong part of foxboro IA is that it is heavely backwards compatible, the software in the old control processors can run on the new control processors without any conversion.

i think it's a great DCS system, but i have nothing to compare it with because it's the only DCS system i know.

I don't think the IA software is available on the net or could even be used on a normal pc, but i could be wrong.

information is available on their website

I use Foxboro I/A DCS systems full time as a programmer.

You can install Foxboro under a virtual machine like VMWARE. If you install an AW70XP with control you even get an integrator which includes a "soft" CP which you can use to test your control blocks etc....

Installation is sometimes confusing and it's a rare process of "committing". Even under Windows XP it's still unix based software which is converted through a MKS toolkit or unix nutcracker toolkit.
Graphical engineering on IA doesn't look that nice as with DeltaV. But that doesn't mean that the CP isn't that powerfull.
The legacy older ICC looks quite old as an editor for control blocks.
The newer IACC software is just a layer on top of this old ICC.

The latest infusion system exists already 1 or 2 years but i don't see any evolution in it or even customers that buy or use this software system.

It's also an expensive system. But when i compare it to
DeltaV, Siemens PCS7 or yokogawa's CS3000 it ' quite good.
Don't use it for digital logic but for analog control (pid block etc...) and you get a good system.
I hear from collegues that CS3000 from Yokogawa is still the best system. I've installed it once (got it here from board) and it looked quite nice but i didn't find some options so fast as i did on the Foxboro IA system.

Software is indeed not available on the net (not public).

DeltaV is based on my opinion on the graphical layer of GE Fanuc/intellutio n iFix Scada software in combination with hardware x ?

Siemens PCS7 is just a S7 400 PLC in combination with WinCC scada software.

With what kind of systems do you have experience with ? Do you have a working version of DeltaV + a dongle key ? DeltaV is also available here on the board with without key

I don't know anything about Honeywell Plantscape, only that's expensive. Do you have it ? How big are the install CD's for Plantscape ? Does it included a "soft" CP or simulation mode so you can test offline on a pc ?

Foxboro's install CD's are quite small (only 1).

Information Site is indeed right, but i think you need to register. A lot of info and help can also be found on the cassandra's site (search google for cassandra and foxboro).

Hello guys,

thank you very much for your answers.

I never used nor IA, nor DeltaV. I just downloaded CS3000 from here but
because of lack of floppy drive I'm not yet able to install on my laptop. I will
try again as far I find some FDD emulator.

I saw before DeltaV (version 6.x.x) working only on NT. Operator interface exactly FIX. I can't say that this quite good but it's working. Configuration environment looks modern and powerful. The only problem I heard that if
you think to upgrade to a newer version you need to check all of your code
because Emerson can change interface for their standard blocks.

Didn't see configuration environment of Plantscape just operator's interface.
I hope in nearest future I will take Plantscape and in case I will upload to somewhere.

If I understand right so IA is quite old platform. New platform is A2 with
operator interface based on WW InTouch. I worked with InTouch before many times. InTouch is good software.

Maybe you have Foxboro A2 and can upload for downloading to me?
Thanks in advance.

you're right, if you install the CS3000 series you need the FDD emulator for pre install step
because all licenses key or demo key need to use disc from FDD
