Officially Windows Vista Home Edition is not supported at all. Check compatibility matrix:

But you can install Step7 5.4 on Vista Home Premium or Vista Home Basic at your own risk. If you get this error message during installation

you should perform the following steps:

1. Copy installation files on your hard drive
2. Open file Setups.ini
3. Comment (put ; in the beginning) the following row:

;WinVistaExclude=SKU2;SKU3;SKU5;SKU8;SKU9;SKU10;SKU11;SKU12;SKU13;SKU14;SKU15;SKU16;SKU17;SKU18;SKU19;SKU20;SKU21;SKU22;SKU23;SKU24;SKU25

Now you are able to install and use Step7 on Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium.

Для установки Step7 на Vista Home Basic и Vista Home Premium необходимо:
1. Распаковываем сервис-пак на жесткий диск
2. Открываем файл Setups.ini
3. Находим страшную строчку WinVistaExclude=SKU2;SKU3;SKU5;SKU8;SKU9;SKU10;SKU11;SKU12;SKU13;SKU14;SKU15;SKU16;SKU17;SKU18;SKU19;SKU20;SKU21;SKU22;SKU23;SKU24;SKU25
4. Ставим в начале этой строки ; или же просто удаляем ее.

Все, теперь можно спокойно устанавливать и пользоваться Step7 на Vista Home Premium.

Надеюсь, в следующих версиях Siemens не будет допускать таких глупых ограничений.
